The preamble of the Constitution of India reflects the core values and commitment of the State to ensure justice, liberty, and equality to all citizens — making it a mandate for institutions to promote and ensure access and opportunity to every citizen. Formal educational institutions are required to uphold access and opportunity for all students and provide safe and conducive learning opportunities. Appreciating diversity and devising appropriate measures for inclusion must be a non-negotiable value of all educational institutions including higher education.
The Centre designs and facilitates programmes and also partners with organisations to sensitise teachers, students and other stakeholders in HEIs to the principles of equality, equity and inclusion as a non-negotiable cross-cutting value. The programmes encourage HEIs to build a safe and conducive environment for students from diverse backgrounds to access, enroll and continue learning — thereby contributing towards building an inclusive society.
